Overbeck Museum
The Overbeck-Museum in the listed Alten Packhaus Vegesack is dedicated to the estate of the artist couple Fritz Overbeck (1869 – 1909) and Hermine Overbeck-Rohte (1869 – 1937). A permanent show depicts the work of the two Worpsweder painters in changing selections and in addition takes up related themes in special exhibitions, with the focus on landscape painting or art from Worpswede. The museum also offers contemporary artists a forum. Guided tours, seminars, readings, art journeys and promotions for children and school classes complement the programme.
The Overbeck-Museum was founded by the painter couple's granddaughter Getrud Overbeck in 1990 and is the only museum in the Bremer urban area, which is dedicated to one of the founding fathers of the artist colony Worpswede. Fritz and Hermine Overbeck were the first from the painters' circle to leave Worpswede in the year 1905 Worpswede settled in 'Bröcken near Vegesack', the present district of Schönebeck, where they lived and worked until their death. Numerous paintings with motifs from Vegesack and Schönebeck are testimony to their artistic dialogue with the region.
